Hier folgt die Projektbeschreibung:
Sospiro is 11 kilometres from Cremona, capital town of the province which Sospiro belongs to.
It is inhabited by 3.251 people (called "Sospiresi") and is 36 meters above sea level.
In the heart of Pianura Padana , Cremona's province merges water and earth. Rivers like Po, Oglio, Serio and Adda give an unique image to the cremonian country-side. Cremona and its territory offer different cultural and artistic routes to the visitor; from the medieval heart of Cremona until lessons of Campi (a painters family of the XVI century) and the magnificent lutarian tradition of Stradivari. From traditions to the country parties, to the great village fairs, the cremonian folk calendar is rich of mixed initiatives and interesting suggestions. The possibility to taste typical products, underlined in specific food fairs, meets with many kinds of parties: from carnivals to winter events to the Festa del Torrone. But also sport activities are of particular interest, and especially those which are tied to the Po river, like the rowing careers (for example, la Voga lunga) or competitions like the motor circuit of Cremona.
It is easy to find occasions and events to have fun, also to find out how great the hospitality of the inhabitants is towards the visitors.
The town is well connected to Milano, Brescia, Mantova, Piacenza which all are interesting cities.
Sospiro is also well connected to Cremona with a large amount of public buses, especially during the day. The Fondazione Sospiro provides the volunteers with a car for going out at night 2 times per week.
The Sospiro Foundation is engaged in a process of dialogue since a long time now within the field concerned with the social integration of disabled person; the opportunity to host an international volunteer represents, in this perspective, an added value.
We believe that through this experience the young Italian and foreigners, the disabled hosts and the staff active in the structure, will learn to know another culture and to tollerate and respect diversities, and moreover to interact and cooperate in a better and more fruitful way.
Hosting a volunteer can increase the quality and the balance of activities, it can stimulate the hosts' learning of new manual and linguistic skills and at the same time it can offer the volunteer the opportunity to express him/herself in a wider way, sharing his/her values linked to his/her culture, sharing the tools he/she acquired during past experiences and sharing the personal ideas he/she can propose during the EVS project.
Therefore the European Voluntary Service can be a great opportunity for growth and development, able to support a stronger social integration of the hosts and able to create a wider professional and intercultural awareness of the international volunteers.
The volunteers of the European Voluntary Service will be added in the activities described below , supporting the educational personnel and the team-leaders.
The activities will involve the volunteers for 30 hours at week (6 hours at day, from Monday to Wednesday) , they will have two free days per week and two free days per month.
They will be hosted in an house-accomodation, outside the foundation with an independent entrance, in two-places rooms, with bathroom, laundry, kitchen and common room, internet connection for the PC is provided.
Lunch can be taken in the foundation's canteen, however it will be possible to cook dinner in the accomodation with food provided by the foundation.
A phone is placed in the accomodation to receive calls or execute calls to emergency numbers.
A car and/or a bike owned by the foundation will be available in return for low private commissions by the volunteers.

She deals with the development of the artistic skills of graphic and musical arts of people with disabilities for now 25 years.) in collaboration with Antonio Della Valle, Sospiro Foundation guest and emerging artist in the outsider art at european level.
The cultural project leads to the implementation of a space to experiment social tecnologies, a contact- point with schools, university, third sector, institutions, museums and ateliers, a permanent center of service, expressive productions, research, training and social experiments about outsider art.
The Atelier project is one of the main steps taken to follow the social purposes of the foundation. Actually it is included in the social project which aims to create citizenship and freedom.
The Atelier is a rehabilitative therapic resort available on the foundation's territory; the guests have enuogh space to create high- quality pieces of art.
During the whole project, volunteers will be supported and assisted by a Tutor and by a Project Responsible. There are scheduled monthly meetings with the purpose of evaluating and monitoring in order to assess the proceeding of the project, to strengthen the positive aspects and to resolve the negative ones.
Every area of the project is also supported by a specific team (which meets every fifteen days); through this the volunteer can propose personal ideas or modify some of the planned activities.
The Foundation will provide a basic Italian language course (40 hours) and the possibility to attend other training courses.
Weekly time of work (from Monday to Friday) as follows
8.30 - 12.30 and 14.00 - 16.00
The volunteers are involved in educational and social activities for the rehabilitative operations which are targeted at persons who are disabled in diverse ways (different abilities) and at elderly. Summarized, the suggested activities are granting to acquire basic techniques which allow to manage the current single operations. At the end of reaching this objective are structured moments of training which are specifically aimed at the volunteers, to provide them with the cognitive instruments which allows them to co-manage and coordinate together with the operators who are in charge of the individualized projects. The educational activities will be organized within the first 3 months and will have a minimum duration of 30 hours. The operations will be assisted by a course of basic Italian language with a duration of 40 hours.
At the end of the volunteer experience a certificate will be issued which will be related to the competences acquired, particularly to the following topic areas:
- Soft Gymnastics for Disabled Persons
- Informatics for Disabled Persons
- Bindery and Craft Techniques
- Social Animation
In order to maximize the benefits and the opportunities to grow offered by the Sospiro project, the volunteer should have a basic predisposition and sensitiveness towards human relations and show interest in people with disabilities and older people,.
Considering the range of activities proposed, wherever the volunteer would have particular interests or hobbies (like music, painting, computer, sport) it would be important to underline them, in order to identify an appropriate project for him/her.
In the future we could be interested to host volunteers with fewer opportunities as many doctors, nurses, psychologists and cultural mediators, that work inside the Foundation, could facilitate the volunteer' s access and help him/her to integrate.
A maximum of 5 (not only evs volunteers tough).
The buildings as all the places where volunteers will do their project are conform with the law in force on the subjects of security, workplace-injury and fire prevention specifically foreseen by the 81/08 law. Within the organization a 24 hours medical service and nursing service are active. Moreover, the occupational physician/ doctor is present on a weekly basis for visits or personal interviews. Furthermore a psychologist is on site for the support during critical situations.
Volunteers will also attend periodical meeting with the staff of the project, in order to monitoring and evaluating the project, prevent risks and reach out the goals foreseen by the project.
AFSAI will also provide us with full support and monitoring during the whole project.
Motivation and EVS experience
The intercultural exchange of the European youth is important in order to let Europe grow, to make the various aspects of disability field more visible and to make the rehabilitative operations, which are addressed towards old people who are affected by dementia, possible. It allows the young people to approach this world taking advantage of experimental aspects and during this experience to build up a motivation to socially commit themselves, also towards active citizenship.
Our previous experience with volunteers in SVE has been positive; the young people have been bearers of culture, of opinions, of positive relations both with the operators of social-health as well as with the users of our centre.
To improve this aspect of the integrated activities at last turned out to be important for us to convey the social political aspects of our region and the territory of Cremona.
Those persons who have taken part during the past years in addition have built strong bonds with the territory, built up friendships, small projects and artistic-cultural initiatives which all have convinced them of the quality and usefulness of the EVS - also in a social-welfare organization as we are.
Description of the organisation
The Fondazione Sospiro/ is today one of the most important multi-service businesses of the Lombardian region. It actually hosts about 700 residents - around 400 disabled and 300 elderly persons.
It is located in the community of Spiro in the Cremona district (Piazza Libertà no.2), which is in the South-East of Lombardia.
The Fondazione Sospiro incorporates itself into all the series of initiatives which are in the field of charity and assistance and which arose in the Cremona district between the centuries of 1800 and 1900 due to the generosity both of the undenominational as well as of the religious.
This formation has been necessary due to the conditions of serious misery of the population - this population's living conditions have been inseparably related to the particular structure of the agricultural organizations.
Today, following the most actual thoughts of welfare, the Fondazione Sospiro chooses a style of service that points towards the "quality of life" of the people: centrality of the residents, promotion of life, establishment of meaningful relationships with the affected persons and their families. An intensive contact is provided which is capable to give peace and trust to individuals that are often on their own and in difficulties; also an approach is provided focused on social health of a higher level.
The Department for Disability of the Fondazione Sospiro is a complex of diverse facilities which emerge from one historic core building and which are integrated with new functional buildings embedded in a wide, green area. These facilities offer residential service to 408 persons in 11 houses which are predominantly composed of RSD facilities (Rehabilitation for Physical Disabled Persons) besides facilities of IDR (Institutes for Rehabilitation) and CSS (Community for society and health).
The Health Residence for Disabled Persons (Residenza Sanitaria Disabili) of the Fondazione Sospiro offers residential services to 350 disabled adults (older than 18 years). Within the three main operating areas it is dealt with: persons with intellectual disability characterized by a relatively high total level of functioning / adaptation; persons with intellectual disability characterized by significant difficulties at a relational and behavioural level; persons with intellectual disabilities characterized by strong request for assistance.
The RSD of the Fondazione Sospiro furthermore makes use of the scientific model of "Quality of life" through multidisciplinary operations (psycho-educational, sanitary, socio-relational) following the guidelines and norms indicated by AAMR (American Association on Mental Retardation).
The Fondazione Sospiro also works together with the American Journal on Mental Retardation, which since 1876 is the most noticed and prestigious international newspaper on intellectual disability. It is assessed by the Journal Citation Reports as most credible source within the subject area of the study and participation on disabilities.
Additionally, the RSD of Fondazione Sospiro obtained a certificate besides the AAMR after a specialized training on the "10th System of Classification, Diagnosis and Programming of Support", which reaffirms the competence and authorisation to apply this model of assessment, planning and participation that work within the domains of emotional well-being and interpersonal relations.
The Department for Elders however offers 260 beds to elderly who can not completely take care of themselves. The Welfare Health Residence of Fondazione Sospiro displays the solution of care and assistance for those elders who are not independent and who can not be nursed through other services due to their particular diseases - those services are home assistance service or the daytime centre. The Residence is also targeted at those who can not be taken care of at home and who request an adequate level of sanitary assistance integrated with a good level of assistance and of accommodation.
The CDI (Centro Diurno Integrato Alzheimer - The Integrated Daytime Centre for Alzheimer) of the Fondazione Sospiro, in contrast, arose due to the demand for covering social and health needs of affected persons who are suffering from a cognitive deterioration (illness of Alzheimer or other types of dementia). The CDI inserts itself into a chain of efforts that the foundation is addressing for a long time now towards persons affected by Alzheimer. This intermediate stage of the illness is dealt with by using support of the families (which became too laborious) and the lodging in a assisting health residence.
CDI places itself as a familial support with the main objective of keeping a proper house for the affected persons and by this avoiding or delaying the need to lodge permanently in a health residence.
Fondazione Sospiro now is structured around a well defined criterion: following the areas of competence can be found which are managed by the foundation, as well as the maximum numbers of possible users/ participants:
CDI (Centro Diurno Integrato Alzheimer) - The Integrated Daytime Centre for Alzheimer - 15 spaces/ places
CENTRO DI RIABILITAZIONE GERIATRICA - Centre for Geriatric Rehabilitation (also daily and ambulatori) - 40 spaces
SERVIZI ASSISTENZA DOMICILIARE INTEGRATA - Integrated Nursing Service (voucher and credit)
RSA (Residenza Sanitaria Assistenziale) - 260 spaces
Nucleo Alzheimer - Group Alzheimer - 20 spaces
RSD (Residenza Sanitaria Disabili) - nursing home for disabled persons - 500 spaces
The services and activities promoted and run by the foundation are the following:
" Painting Atelier

" Physical rehabilitation therapy
" Bindery workshop
" Informatic workshop for disabled persons

One of the main objectives of the foundation has been to create a reality for the guests close to that of their home and families; for this reason the social model of the Institute has been changed during the last years. Moreover, the foundation tries to overcome the classical model of the hospital due to the fact that people with psychological diseases are not ill, but they simply live a life full of opportunities that can be taken.
To pursue this aim and other important objectives the foundation has formed a professional team that works to improve the educational method and the medical assistance.
At this regard, the Fondazione Sospiro hosts the so called Centro di Formazione Permanente with the aim to develop a culture based on the quality of the vocational training. The centre organizes many events and meetings every year for those people who are interested in the social-medical field (see INTERcultura project).
Furthermore, a Scientific Committee has been established to guard the cultural and formative planned activities; moreover the planning of these events has been certified following the legislative rules UNI EN ISO 9001:2000.
The Institution is registered as provider regarding the Program of Continuous Medical Education (E.C.M.) sponsored by the Italian Ministry for Health.
The whole Sospiro complex embraces a surface of 86.000 sqm of which 37.500 sqm are dedicated to a park and different gardens.
At the moment, 700 employees work in the Sospiro's structure, comprehending contributors and outsider professionals.
Already since 2002 volunteers of the Servizio Civile Nazionale (National civil service) are operating within the structure of Sospiro, and from 2006 also European young persons in EVS (European Voluntary Service).
In the field of educative activities numerous cooperations are activated with the following institutions: Brescia's University ("Università Cattolica di Brescia"), Bergamo's University ("Università degli Studi di Bergamo"), Milano's Universities ("Università Bicocca di Milano", "Università Bocconi di Milano"), Padova's University ("Università degli Studi di Padova"), Parma's University ("Università degli Studi di Parma").
Third Sector associations, groups of volunteers, family doctors and town halls are the new allies, contact persons, fellow travellers of the Fondazione Sospiro.
