Projektbeschreibung:
The aims of the Cooperatives' project are;
" To exchange experience, methods, strategy and competence in the field of 'Service to People'.
" To give opportunities for 'International Experience of Mobility', to interested youngsters.
" Create and promote links to the European Institutions involved in this project.

The project will take place within a service for people with fewer opportunities in life (Youth centre, young people's community, the disabled community, Etc) and within the organised system of the Cooperativa.

The following description is about the projects and the personnel involved in them;
1. 'CAG'
The aim of the youth centre (CAG) is "….. Realization of positive action, to promote the rights of
children and adolescents …… for the well-being and the quality of life of the younger people……. " (Art
3, comma 1 Act of Law 285/97)
There are many recreational/cultural/social activities that can be chosen from, for 6-18 year olds.
The activities are not only inside the Youth Centre but can be within schools, or even different areas of
Messina. The Youth Centre is an alternative to street culture, where it is possible for the youngsters
and their family to have support and help from specialised professionals.

2. 'Community House for younger people'
The aim of the Community House is to protect the youngsters with educational and re-socialisation
tasks. It is a place where the youngsters can experiment day by day, different ways of living within a
positive relationship with similar ages, and with professional tutors. (The Community House has the
Regional Act # 22/86 written into the Regional list of the local organisation)
The house can host x10 Males, between the ages of 14-18 years old, that are having legal problems.

3. 'The Family House'
This is for women and youngsters who have been abandoned, or find that it is necessary to stay apart
from their families. It is an alternative to the Institutions of old, and it gives the people involved a
chance to find a solution to their problems. The problems are evaluated, and solutions are found,
through evaluating a persons confidence. The Family House is a place where Women and youngsters
who have experienced problematic situations will be welcomed, and then found specific and
personalised solutions to their problems.

4. 'Domestic Education for Youngsters'
The aim of this project is to support the family in it's day to day management of everyday life, and to
promote the function of the parents. Linked to this aim, there is the promotion of individuality,
creativity, autonomy, and self confidence of the youngsters. The main job of the staff is to facilitate the
relationship and communication within the family. The project has been restored since June 2008,
thanks to the L.n.328/00.

The project will develop in different stages;
The Initial stage of reception will be dedicated to the study of the Italian language, and to get to know the local culture.

Reception (4 weeks)
" Whilst learning the Italian language the volunteer will be taught by a long standing member of the Cooperativa. In the first period of intense study (2 weeks) the volunteer will study for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. In the second period (2 weeks) the volunteer will study for 2 hours a day, 3 days a week.
" Whilst learning about the local culture, the volunteer will be assisted by a Professional person who has worked for the Cooperativa for a long time.

The volunteer will learn much more about the culture during the project, through the plan of activities.

The following stage will provide formative training through insertion of the volunteer in the agreed service. After that the volunteer will be a part of the service.

The volunteer activities will be inside the services for youngsters from 6-18 years old, as written above, where they can be helped by qualified professional workers. They will do many kinds of activities whilst helping and supporting the professional worker.

Activities
The aim of all these services is to build a significant relationship with people who live at the edge of society. The function of these services is to accompany and help share the experience in the social context of where they live. It is not just for the consumer but for the entire community, through a social cultural animation, the psychology of the community, and the social network. The intervention of the social services is mainly for people who have social problems, or with relating to family life. The social worker will pay attention to those people who are at risk, as they don't have good family support or they have social problems. They usually spend their time on the street. Through this project we would like to give to the volunteer a chance to improve themselves through this work, so as to help improve their own personal and professional abilities. The role of the volunteer will be very important in supporting the worker in the following activities;
" Supporting the educational job of the worker, to help the guest in their social life. They will support the guest in making the decisions about the way forward. For example; Entry into a school, getting a job, social recreation, Etc.
" Exchange and confront everyday activities, for the whole week.
" Support of the organisation, social recreation, and workshop activities, depending on the volunteers ability and aptitude.
" Helping the worker in the educational project.
" Accompany the worker whilst involved with the youngsters in outside activities.
" Helping the workers in the support of scholastic activities.
" Supporting the project of integration between school, services, and territory.
" Supporting the movement of creativity and socialisation. For example; Films, games, Etc.
" Sharing informal moments with the youngsters, to reinforce relationships between people.
" Participation in moments of training for all the services.

The duty of the volunteer will be chosen depending on the volunteer's ability, motivation and aptitude. The volunteer will always work with qualified workers of the services. The volunteer will work alongside the qualified worker, in order to guarantee the implementation of the services.

Duty of the volunteer.
The volunteer will collaborate completely with Equipe. (Social assistants, Psychologists, Activity Co-ordinators):
" Planning of the activities of the Services.
" Realisation of the activities.
" Verification and evaluation of what has been achieved.

The presence of a volunteer from a different country can help by bringing different experiences to the services. Within the project the volunteer can bring their own creativity, knowledge and ability. The volunteer will work in the places where the project will take place. The responsibility of the volunteer will be to do the tasks that are given, in a punctual and diligent way, even if the responsibility of the tasks is of the tutor.

Length of Engagement
The volunteer will be engaged in the service Monday to Saturday, for 30 hours a week:
" For 20 hours a week the volunteer will be working in the specific activities of the service, preferably from 1500 hrs to 1900 hrs.
" The remaining 10 hours will be used getting to know the Institution, and the linguistic/cultural characteristics of the local community. Preferably during the morning, and always with a tutor.

Naturally, the Reception period will have a different length of engagement, as it will be used for the gradual insertion and integration of the volunteer, into the programme of the service.

The hours and days of the activities will be decided whilst considering the volunteers needs, and that of the programme of the service.

Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
1. What we can offer the volunteer, in regard to 'Terms of Service' and 'Learning Opportunities', is linked to our specific area of Professional Social work, through;
" An apprenticeship in the Cooperative, in the area of Social Service.
" Tutoring from a long term Professional in the area of Social Service.
" An Italian language course.
" Valuation and verification activities.

2. Rules for the volunteer;
" Supporting the educational job of the worker, to help the guest in their social life. They will support the guest in making the decisions about the way forward. For example; Entry into a school, getting a job, social recreation, Etc.
" Exchange and confront everyday activities, for the whole week.
" Support of the organisation, social recreation, and workshop activities, depending on the volunteers ability and aptitude.
" Helping the worker in the educational project.

" Support in recreational, cultural, artistic and sporting activities.
" Helping the workers in the support of scholastic activities.
" Accompany the worker whilst involved with the youngsters in outside activities.
" Supporting the project of integration between school, services, and territory.
" Supporting the movement of creativity and socialisation. For example; Films, games, Etc.

3. Typical activities for the volunteer;
" Educational and recreational activities.
After the activities have been decided, at the weekly meeting of the programme, the volunteer will co-manage part of the games and animation. The volunteer will be a part of the team that manages the project, from the meetings to knowing the methodology of work and organisation.
" Promotion of inter-cultural initiatives, within the European ambit.
Together with the contact person from the European ambit the volunteer will be engaged in;
Research of the opportunities promoted by the European Institution.
Support the team in the organisation and management of the European project in the different services.

Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:

For the selection of the candidates we will use the following criteria;
" Level of self improvement and ability to experiment.
" Level of communication.
" Ability of observation.
" Level of reception and listening.
" A high level of motivation to work with adolescents, that for family or social/economic situations, have had less opportunities, and many problems relating to contemporaries/adults.

Special needs (if applicable):

Our organisation is interested in having volunteers with fewer opportunities, and/or special needs. We are interested in promoting the integration of all young people, whatever their background.
Most of our accommadation can host, and give support, to youngsters with fewer opportunities or special needs. As we work with the Social Health Service, we are able to provide social and psychological services for Pensioners, the disabled, adolescents and children.
The volunteer will have the opportunity to participate in a long running project, to learn about a different culture, and to experience different ways of living and thinking.

Risk prevention, protection and safety:

We will give all the necessary information that the volunteer will need, for each specific service, to ensure a safe living and working environment. A plan of security and risk evaluation will be given to the volunteer. In the case of volunteers under 18 years old, we will provide specific tutoring by the professional worker, within the specific services.

The City of Messina covers 211.73 sq/km, on the coast's of the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. It has a population of 250,000 inhabitants.
Messina is the main commercial centre of the Island, due to its key position for traffic to all of the other Islands, and the Italian mainland. Local agriculture consists largely of grapes, olives and citrus fruits. The Industrial sector is represented by food products, metal fabrication, boatbuilding, printing, and third sector businesses.
