The volunteers should bring with them:

• Computer literacy.

• Commitment, spirit and a sense of humour.
• Ability to work independently.
• The willingness to work on evenings or weekends.
• Willingnessto work closly with the South African volunteers.
• Driver licence and be willing to drive a scooter.
• Fluent English.

• Ideally they should be ex-participants from one of the AFS-programmes or have worked for AFS on a voluntary basis or have experience from a similar organisation - not mandatory!


Project description:

AFS Interculture South Africa offers school and voluntary serviceprograms to participants from the international AFS partner network and toyoung South Africans. To foster the visibility of AFS as an interculturallearning organisation and to help build the foundation for a prosperous futureof AFS South Africa, we are looking for a young professional to work for AFS inCape Town for a 12-month internship as a regional center coordinator.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer age 22 to 28 committed towork on a challenging, but rewarding position.

The position will bean office job, but will also include visiting schools, NGOs, volunteers andchapters. The activities will mainly take place in the Western Cape, but theNorthern Cape could also be targeted. Normal working-hours and holidays apply(15 days a year). Overtime can be taken of when needed. International flights,lodging, board, pocket money (100 € per month) and insurance will be paid for,as well as trips related to work. The “weltwärts” program includescomprehensive preparation and re-integration seminars.

Volunteer Tasks

• Contact and work withlanguage schools, high schools, teacher associations, etc.
• Develop new chapters and strengthen existing chapter.
• Coordinate and support volunteer activities in the western cape.
• Update the database.
• Contact NGOs and find new projects to work with.
• Offer trainings to the volunteers and develop training concepts.
• Recruit new volunteers, involve returnees and host family in AFS.
• Increase sending numbers.
