To get the best out of this project it would be preferable both for the staff, the children and the volunteer him/herself if the volunteer takes an interest in working with children of this age group and also has the patience required.
We will be interested in any volunteer who can meet these requirements.

We think it is very exiting and inspiring to have a person of a different culture in our kindergarten and we expect that a volunteer will be able to inspire us by bringing thoughts and ideas from his/her own cultural background to the kindergarten and by sharing his/her personal beliefs. In this way we hope that the volunteer will help us take a fresh look at how we do things.
We also firmly believe that it will be very rewarding and educating for our children to get to know a person from another culture.
In the past we have been an EVS host organisation, and we have had very good experience with European volunteers.
Send your application between 1st. of March 2009 and 1st. of May 2009.

A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community Boernecentret Hoellevang is a typical Danish kindergarten.
The children start in the kindergarten when they are 2 years and 9 months old. Normally they leave the kindergarten when they are 6 years old in order to start at school. The kindergarten has about 66 children and 9-10 staff members.
Our aim is to create an environment for the children, where they can develop and grow through play.
The children arrive at the Børnecentret Høllevang from 6.30 am and leave by 4.30 pm. During the day we play, sing, read stories for the children and take care of their needs in general.
Every day after having our lunch we go to our big playground in order for the children to spend some time outdoors and get some fresh air.
The kindergarten Hoellevang is located in Toftlund in the southern region of Jutland. It is a village with about 5000 inhabitants.
You reach the major towns Haderslev, Aabenraa, Toender and Ribe in ½ an hour by car.
In Toftlund you will find several stores, a cinema, a music folk high school, an internet café and an upper secondary level school.

B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers

We wish to make an individual work description for the volunteer according to his/her interests and abilities.
We expect that the volunteer will support the staff whenever and whereever needed. And perhaps inspire and give new inputs to staff and children.
Together with the staff the volunteer will play with children and keep them actively engaged.

Examples of proposed activities:
- outdoor games: ball games, rope skipping, playing in the sand box or at the swing etc.
- indoor games: board games, drawing and other creative activities

We also think that it is important for our children to experience and get to know the Danish traditions and therefore many of our activities are related to the different seasons and their traditions. E.g. at Christmas we are making decorations, participating in children's church service, backing and singing Christmas carols.
In general we hope that the presence of the volunteer will give both staff, children and parents an intercultural learning experience.

Lodging and boarding
AFS will provide a host family for the volunteer. The life in a host family will facilitate the integration in the local community and will accelerate the process of both language and intercultural learning.
The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the AFS's local chapters together with other volunteers, exchange students and host families.

C. Risk prevention, safety and protection
The Kindergarten complies with Danish safety regulations. The work does not involve any special risks. Reference Number: 2007-DK-12
