Projektbeschreibung:

The Organization
Established in December 2005, this non profit organization registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs with the aim of promoting visual and performing arts and using arts as a vehicle for social development. Situated in the heart of the community we serve, the staff are deeply committed to working for positive innovative social change. The organization also relies heavily on dedicated volunteers.

Mission

To create a unique haven where impoverished youth can nurture their artistic senses and experience self discovery through visual and performing arts in a professional, yet flexible and enjoyable environment.

Goal

To broaden the cultural dimension of youth through exposure to art, workshops and field trips to museums, concerts and exchange programs. The intention is for participants to embark upon a learning journey that both inspires and informs them, to provide them with new tools that enable them to better their living conditions, both socially and economically.

Activities:

The NGO offers all forms of visual and performing art classes to children and youth and uses art as a tool for social development. Classes include drama, drawing, photography, arts and crafts, pottery, musical instruments, computer, language classes to name but a few. The classes are supplemented with field visits to museums, concerts and other cultural events to further enhance their understanding and appreciation for art.

The Projects

Theatre of the Oppressed

This is an experimental form of theatre that aims at imparting theatre based methodologies to youth and children, as a means of self expression and self development. Not only does the project enable a body of inspired youth to think creatively, but it also provides profound fodder for empowerment and intellectual growth.

Encouraging Youth participation in the community.

This project offers youth a series of workshops that relay certain messages such as non-violence and tolerance and embed a sense of responsibility. A curriculum is devised that uses interactive educational methods to encourage youth to explore themselves and their surroundings in the hope of becoming proactive members of their community.

‘ME’ Book
‘ME’ Book, is a book that takes the children on a journey of self discovery. A journey during which children think about themselves and their living environment. The book becomes their best friend as page after page they learn more about themselves and explore new options.
