The Organization

At present, Children of the Dawn cares for some 230 children aged 4 to 19 in five rural communities: Mathabatha located in the Limpopo Province, Bushbuckridge and Mangweni situated in Mpumalanga, Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State Province, and Mpumaze in Kwazulu-Natal. The sponsorship programme is run on the ground by five dedicated local community-based organisations. About 70% of the sponsored children are orphans or living with a HIV-positive parent.

What will the participant do?

• Develop and run after school activities at several care centres (homework support, sport, art, educational games, computer lessons, etc.)
• Develop weekend activities for the children, potentially in small groups
• Assist the Children of the Dawn team in running the programme on a daily basis
• Assist Children of the Dawn’s teams in using computer management tools more efficiently
• Visit every single child on the programme during the 6-month period and provide a detail report to head office
• Help at the overnight shelter when requested
• Provide a hand for any other task.

How will the volunteer be able to benefit from working at this Project?
