The NGO started in 1995 by Couples for Christ to rehabilitate juvenile gang members and help out-of-school youth in a squatter’s area in Bagong Silang, Calooocan City. Gawad Kalinga which literally means “to give care” has evolved over the years with a vision for a slum-free, squatter-free nation through a simple strategy of providing land for thelandless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino.

Volunteers Task:

• Volunteers will help in the program development and/or implementation of the specific program he/she is assigned to depending on their background/expertise.The aims and themes of the assignments will always be aligned to the overall direction f the specific program the volunteer is assigned to.
• Assignments will focus on fieldwork (implementation, data gathering, et al) with office work reserved for meetings and coordination to the specific program team thevolunteer is assigned to.
• In broad strokes the major phases of the work assignments would include: Program orientation/site visit of actual program, selection of site/region/provincial assignment,introduction to local teams, immersion in selected site, actual implementation, coordination with program team for progress and concerns, documentation,evaluation.
• Role of volunteers are: Advocacy of the movement, coordinator of the specific program the volunteer is working on, andsupport for National events within the volunteer duration of the volunteer.
