Projektbeschreibung:

The Organization

The NGO was created as a non profit organizationand its social object is to improve the conditions of life of the most vulnerable people in Colombia, by promoting culture and an interest in music, among other activities.
It was created as a strategy to build the social fabric for boys and girls who are exposed every day to the harsh reality of extreme poverty, teen gangs, domestic violence, and a culture that accepts violence as a way of solving daily conflicts. Art education has shown to be successful at inculcating discipline, working in a group, and creating a sense of ethics for group work, with respect for oneself and for the others.

The Project

The project began in march 2007. At this time it has a rented headquarters located in the heart of the neighbourhood of Bellavista, in Cali. There, the pedagogical project works with 150 boys, girls, and young people from the four schools in the area. The activities take place every weekday with practice sessions together on the weekends. Seventeen teachers, who are specialists in one instrument, have been hired, one of them serving as the choir director. In addition, the project has made agreements with the four schools attended by the children to offer mutual support in the pedagogical process and to measure the impact, for each individual child, of his or her participation in the musical programme. Other activities worth to mention are that children who participate in the project receive a daily snack and a crosscutting psychosocial component is being implemented.
