Organization Description

This Organization- is a humanitarian NGOdedicated to the well being of young people in West Africa, especially Liberians and Ghanaians.
The Organization was founded in 2003 and has been involved inproviding Academic education, Peace building, and Vocational skill trainingprograms for Refugees at the Buduburam Refugee camp.

Project Description

The school program was established in 2005 with theobjectives of providing free basic quality Primary and Junior High schooleducation to under privileged refugee children whose parents cannot other wiseafford to send them to school. Students are recruited throughout the refugee camp by means of the Organisation meetings which are held regularly in the various zones, several others were are recruited directly from the streets. In addition to the academic education, a key part of the educationalactivities at the school is to teach the children to live together peacefullyand to solve their problems in a non-violent way. So lessons in traditionalsubjects are also supported by peace education lessons and taught.

The project targets the community’s neediest children, some of whom havebeen forced from their homes because their parents or guardians don’t have theresources to some support. The mass repatriation of Liberian refugees have left many schoolsclosed, thereby making more needy students to come to the Project's school.

Teachers follow the standardGhanaian syllabus, and so the diversity of a volunteers' background and educationcan enrich the students' experience. Volunteer Tasks

At the school, volunteer will assist theteaching staff to provide academic lessons to students between KG 1 to grade 6.Planning lessons is optional, but the volunteer should have a good stock ofideas and activities that will work with demanding children. Fundraisingmeetings, academic committee meetings, sports days, and extra-curricularactivities are also events that volunteers are welcome to help with.
