As most of the participants are girls we prefer a male volunteer.
The volunteer must have a great interest in organic farming as well as like to use his hands.
He must be able to communicate in English. We find that making networks between different cultures through meaningsful cooperation and gathering enriches all participants.
A volunteer with a non-Danish cultural background will hopefully give the folk high school some extra intercultural energy and inspiration to its work.
We do not have any former experience in being an EVS-project.
We would prefer 1or 2 volunteers for a period of 7 to 10 months starting from the 1st of February or the 1st of March.

Projektbeschreibung:

A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community Vestjyllands Højskole is a Danish folk high school with room for all kinds of personalities, ideas and visions. Our school is based on the thoughts of Grundtvig, the founder of the ideology behind the Danish folk high schools. He started adult teaching for the wellbeing and development of humanity in accordance with the "learning of life" theory.
We make a point of individual challenges, community and technical immersion. We have room for everyone who likes to expand in a human and cheerful way and work seriously at the same time. However, speaking English or Danish is a requirement.
A stay at a folk high school means a meeting between many different people. You are together with people from all parts of Denmark and the whole world at Vestjyllands Højskole. You will meet a team of strongly committed teachers, who meet you as equals and give you challenges.

THE MISSION OF THE PROJECT:
1. The creation of new social and cultural networks between Danes and foreigners through courses in ecological gardening and the use of ecological products in the kitchen.
2. Strengthening the knowledge in the local community about the importance of good food in relation to health and healthy living.
3. Creating an ecological research and display garden that will inspire to form the basis of a new way of living.
There are 8 teachers and various guest teachers at the school with different educational backgrounds e.g. actors, designers etc.

Vestjyllands Højskole is situated in the unique - beautiful, but also rough and powerful - nature in the Western part of Jutland. We are surrounded by Ringkoebing Inlet, The North Sea, moors, plantation, but are still close to the county capital of Ringkoebing.
The folk high school is one of the most visited folk high schools in Denmark with room for 60 students.

The folk high school has many facilities e.g.
- Workshops for the different arts activities
- Dance room
- Musik room
- Ecological display garden

B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers

The volunteer will learn how the unique Danish concept: "Danish Folk High School" works by participating in the the daily life at the school.
The volunteer will work in the ecological display garden where he will do both garden work and assist in our ecological building project.
The volunteer will also have the opportunity to participate in a folk high school course of his choice together with the students.
As the programme is quite intensive, there are often activities at the High School also in the weekends. If the volunteer works during the weekend, he will have time off at an other time during the week.
The average working hours per day will be about 7-8 hours.

Lodging and boarding:
The volunteer will be lodged at the high school where he will either have his own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities.
The local AFS chapter will arrange a weekend host family for the volunteer. He will eat at the school together with the students and the staff.
The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the AFS's local chapters together with other volunteers, exchange students and host families.

C. Risk prevention, safety and protection Vestjyllands folk high school complies with Danish safety regulations. The work at the school does not involve any special risks.
