The age ofthe volunteer is not so important. However, the volunteer should be able towork independently take responsibility for the assigned tasks. A high level ofEnglish (verbal and written) is required and it is an advantage if the volunteerhas linguistic abilities. It will be preferred if the volunteer has a relevanteducational background both in relation to the theatre as an organisation andas an outgoing cultural institution. The volunteer should have a desire to workin a small, dialogue-based and socially well-functioning team consisting ofpeople from different fields of expertises. Bewerbung bis zum 1. Descriptionof the organisation
OdsherredTeater was established in 1996 by the local communes and it receives publicsubsidies from the local commune as well as financial support from othersources.
It is basedon the same premises as the Odsherred school of theatre and it has a close andmutually rewarding cooperation with the school.
Apart frombeing performed at the Odsherred Teater most plays are touring the country aswell.
The theatrecooperates with a number of cultural/artistic organisations, both internationallyand locally.
Thepermanent staff at the theatre consists of the director, two actors, an officemanager, a theatre technician and an artistic director. In addition to that thetheatre employes temporary staff as required, such as instructors, scenographers,composers, musicians, actors, play writers, etc.
OdsherredTeater seeks to achieve a high artistic quality and aims to attract the mostcompetent international and national experts within the field. It endeavours toproduce performances which take a humanistic approach and which touch andengage the audience. The productions of the theatre often has a thematicapproach and they have varying target groups according to theme.
Some of therecent themes of the theatre include health related dilemmas, depression, andpreviously it has produced plays about refugees, racism and children in war. Inthat way the theatre appeals to a broad audience.
Themanagement of the theatre aims to maintain a high level of communicationensuring that all staff members feel well informed about ongoing activities.
Odsherred Teater carries out a number of different cultural activities.
Depending on the interest and competencies of the EVS volunteer, the theatrewill be able to offer volunteer tasks within the following areas:
" the general administration of the theatre
" promotion of the theatre (internationally and nationally)
" the artistic production
" other tasks in connection with international and local activities
Odsherred is a relatively large but sparsely populated area with approx. 40.000inhabitants.
The theatre is housed in the premises of a former a hospital and the buildingsand the nature surrounding the theatre are very beautiful.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
The theatre is currently engaged in the following activities:
" Cooperation with the Middle East Peace Orchestra - a peace orchestrawhich includes Arab and Jewish musicians. The project will take the form of aperformance which involves the orchestra as well as actors from Odsherred,Odense, Arhus and Aalborg Teater. It is envisioned that the performance will beshown internationally as well.
" Cooperation with the Lebanese Puppet Theatre / Khayal Centre. The targetgroup for this project is the immigrant population in Denmark.
" Performances for children
" Developing the relations to external partners in the local area
" General tasks related to the organisation and productions of the theatre
" International promotion activities
The theatre can offer the EVS volunteer a number of interesting tasks inrelation to its activities. Typical tasks include assisting with productiontasks, assisting in internal and external communication tasks, assisting in thearea of international activities, acting as director assistant, taking part inproduct development, attending the courses offered to the staff of the theatre,taking part in the touring work, research work, etc.
OdsherredTeater wishes to expand its international dimension in the future. The theatrecan offer exciting challenges for young people who would like to develop theircompetencies in the area of theatre/cultural work. The staff at the theatre hasmany years of experience in the various working areas and processes of atheatre.
