Descriptionof the organisation

Theinstitution is a combined kindergarten and after school care. There are approx.38 children in the kindergarten and the age of the kindergarten children arebetween 3-6 years. In the After School Care, which has approx. 40 children, theage is up to 14 years.

The insidearea of the institution is approx. 177m2 and the outdoor area is approx. 1000m2+ the school yard.

Thekindergarten is a trend setter in its field in so far as we put great emphasison sports and it uses sports and physical activities as a means to achieve thetargets set for each pupil. The children are not divided into fixed groups butbased on the age of the children they are allocated different activities.

Every daystarts by a meeting with morning gymnastics followed by general informationabout what is going to happen on the day.

Thekindergarten/after school care is part of the Aadum School and it shares the facilities withthe school and generally has a very close cooperation with the school.

The AadumSchool and Kindergarten is located in Tarm at the southern end of theRingkøbing Inlet in West Jutland.

Tarm isideal If you would like to experience the countryside of Denmark, as itsituated in natural surroundings with open heath areas and is close to the sea.

Activitiessuch as swimming, windsurfing, fishing, kite flying, walks or boat trips on theFjord are just some of the outdoor activities you can do here. There are plentyof possibilties for activities such as walking, cycling, bird watching orhorseriding.

The townalso has many sports facilities (such as facilities for handball, football, badminton, tennis, and golf as well as a aquatic center and a fitness center.

You canfind more information about Tarm and surroundings athttp://visittarm.dk/content/view/1/2/lang,en/

The EVSvolunteer will stay with a local Danish host family and will be expected tobecome part of the family and as such take part in the activities andresponsibilities in the family.

We hopethat the presence of the volunteer will give both staff, children and parentsan intercultural learning experience.

TheEVS-activities will be adapted to the qualifications and interests of theindividual volunteer and he/she will be working together with one of the staffmembers who will support and guide him/her when needed.

It will bepossible for the volunteer to assist both in the kindergarten, the after schoolcare and in the school itself and possible areas of activities include:

"Assisting in the general work at the kindergarten (with emphasis onsports/physical activities)

"Assisting in the general work at the after school care (primarily specialprojects carried out in the unit and other activities according to theinterests of the children)

"Visiting classes at the school to share his/her cultural background andlanguage

We believethat the volunteer position at our institution offers the volunteer theopportunity to learn about Danish kindergartens and the philosophy on whichtheir activities are based. The volunteer will also study the new trend towardsfocusing on physical activities as a means to children development. Being basedin a small town, the placement also offers the volunteer the possibility oflearning about life conditions in countryside Denmark.

Thevolunteer is very welcome to make his/her own activities with the children, andwe will do our best to help and support the volunteer so that the EVS-stay withus will meet his/her expectations.

Examples ofactivities in the kindergarten:

"Carrying out a wide range of outdoor sports/physical activities

"Spending time in nature, go on walks and doing other activities related tonature

"Doing indoor activities when weather requires it - primarily in thesports/gymnastics room

Lodging andboarding

AFS willprovide a host family for the volunteer. The life in a host family willfacilitate the integration in the local community and will accelerate theprocess of both language and intercultural learning.

Thevolunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the local AFS chapterand in that way he/she will meet other volunteers, exchange students and hostfamilies.

Motivationand EVS experience

We think itwill be very exiting and inspiring to have a person of a different culture inour institution. The volunteer will also be invited to visit classes at theAadum school itself to share his/her cultural background, and we believe thatin that way we will be able to offer the volunteer a varied range of tasks andexperiences according to his/her interests and background. Generally, we expectthat a volunteer will be able to inspire us by sharing thoughts and ideas fromhis/her own cultural background. In this way they hope that the volunteer willhelp us take a fresh look at how we do things.

We do nothave any previous experiences in being an EVS project.

The projectperiod as well as the starting date is flexible.
