• A basic knowledge of spoken Spanish is essential.
• You will need to be flexible and be willing to get involved in anything that is asked of you.

• No specific experience is required but good teamwork skills

Description of the Institution:
This NGO is a non-profit organization offering rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities in the Dominican Republic. It provides medical rehabilitation services and occupational therapy as well as social psychological services. In addition, it maintains a program for children with mental and learning disabilities designed to diagnose, treat and provide appropriate educational opportunities for children in need of these services. For clients over the age of 16 the NGO offers occupational and employment services to aid in the professional development for people with disabilities. It is a National Member Organization of Rehabilitation International. Rehabilitation International is a federation of national and international organizations and agencies. It develops and promotes initiatives to protect the rights of people with disabilities, to improve rehabilitation and other crucial services for disabled people and their families, and to increase international collaboration towards these objectives.
Programs:• The ADR offers services through three Basic Programs in a national level:
• Rehabilitation Medicine
• Professional Rehabilitation
• Rehabilitation with Base in the Community
Physiotherapy department and school for children with learning Disabilities school.
Volunteer Work Activities
There are various working areas. The physiotherapy department is where children and adults receive treatment. AFS participants that work here learn everything “on the job".
There is a social service department (social worker), an occupational therapy department where they treat young children with slight or more severe physical problems. There are children psychiatric and Psychology, department and last, but no least there is a small school for children with learning disabilities.
You will be providing inpatient and outpatient services for the assessment and treatment of people who have impairments such as: amputations, spinal cord injuries, strokes, lung disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, and communication disorders.
