Must have artistic skills
Prefered age of the volunteers: 23-28 years
Creativity or an ability to think outside the box.
Ability to communicate with their voices and physically.
Putting together any type of artistic performance.
Experience in planning events;
Organization and ability to coordinate logistics.
Good presentation skills to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively.
Knowledge of media relations and marketing to promote events.
Ability to connect with a wide variety of audiences.
Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.


The Organization

This NGO is a non-profitable organization, awarded with the Federal title of Public Importance. It is settled in Rio de Janeiro, with local offices in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Ceará. There are also some projects in Sergipe and Belém do Pará. Founded in 1998 the NGO is responsible for creating individuals and groups responsible for the administration of their own enterprises, making them Entrepreneurs and Administrators, agents of their social and economic change.
Their mission is promoting human and community development, aiming the strech of the capacity of organization of groups and communities through management of the own community and productive learning. The institution considers the human potencial the key for action and intends to strengthen the projects with the help of the own community members and local institutions, gaining autonomy and sustainability.
The Urban PAX Project will work with young people from 15 to 18, in Rio de Janeiro, during four hours, three times a week. They must be studying and interested in developing artistic abilities.
This project pretends to capacitate 45 youngsters through an artistic development, which contemplates itinerant theater presentations in public places in Rio de Janeiro, promoting urban peace interventions and stimulating debates about peaceful living between different regional realities of Rio.

This project specific aims are:

• To identify young talents, with a cultural and artistic potencional vocation between different parts of Rio and offer instruments to help them to integrate in actions which generates peaceful and solidarity moviments and dialogues to the city;
• To create reflexion spaces about urban civility that generates changes and commitments to incentivate a more respectful relation between citzens;
• To make specific areas of great circulation of people in Rio to become a great stage for the debate of the respect to diversity and pacifical living.

This Projetc begun in January 2008 and will be finished by august, 2009.

What will the volunteer do?

The volunteer should work in the NGO working hours, which is from 9:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. including lunch break.

The tasks and responsibilities to be taken by the volunteers are:

Recruiting participants for the events proposed by the project;
Performing Arts during the events proposed by the project;
Assisting in planning, assigning, scheduling, prioritizing, and reviewing work;
Coordinating with pairs to implement health, behavioral modification, educational, and other rehabilitative opportunities for youth in the communities attended;
Assisiting the project supervisor to coordinate with other public departments, community organizations, and schools to provide and gather information related to local youth;
Coordinates and facilitates Youth groups meetings;
Representing the NGO and the Project to the media, community groups, and the public;
Acting as liaison between the youth groups attended and the project to transmit information, coordinate activities between parties and identify issues for discussion;
Assisting in the development of a local performance measurement system;
Analyzing performance outcomes of the events developed.
